Creative Workplaces has partnered with Screen Well to deliver free online psychosocial safety training to the Australian screen industry. The tailored training will help screen businesses, producers and managers better understand their legal obligations and how to support psychologically safe workplaces.

The initiative provides free access for 300 participants to Screen Well’s specialised training program. Developed in response to changes in work health and safety (WHS) laws that came into effect across most of Australia in 2024, the course offers practical, screen specific guidance on identifying and managing psychosocial hazards in the workplace.

“At Creative Workplaces, we know that good mental health and a safe and respectful culture are essential foundations of a thriving screen industry. This partnership helps make legal obligations more accessible and meaningful and we’re proud to support such initiatives,” said Kate Schaffner, Director Creative Workplaces.

The online course takes around 40-60 minutes to complete and is designed for two core audiences:

  • Business owners and producers to better understand their legal obligations.
  • Managers (such as Heads of Department) to identify and manage psychosocial hazards and risks within their control.

Screen Well’s Managing Partner Jonathon Dutton said: "Legislation can be difficult to make sense of, so we’ve designed this course to be practical from a screen industry perspective. We’ve also highlighted some of the common hazards and risks we know exist in all screen workplaces, so businesses and those who manage people can really tune into how we can mitigate the risk of harm."

This training supports the wider goals of both organisations: to strengthen workplace capability, raise standards, and ensure mental health is part of the safety conversation across all levels of screen production.

We respect their deep enduring connection to their lands, waterways, and surrounding clan groups since time immemorial. We cherish the richness of First Nations peoples’ artistic and cultural expressions. We are privileged to gather on this Country and to share knowledge, culture and art, now and with future generations.
