Employer associations

Employer associations are organisations that represent the interests of businesses and employers in a particular industry or sector. Employer associations often provide industry best practice tips and legal advice. The Fair Work Commission has a list of registered employer associations.

Fair Work Commission

The Fair Work Commission is Australia's national workplace relations tribunal, established by the Fair Work Act 2009. They set minimum wages, regulates registered organisations, and resolves workplace disputes. The Commission plays a key role in making awards, approving enterprise agreements, and ensuring compliance with workplace laws. They provide resources, research, and publications to help businesses and workers navigate the national workplace relations system.

Fair Work Ombudsman

The Fair Work Ombudsman is Australia's national workplace relations regulator. They provide information, education, and advice to employers and employees on pay, workplace rights, and obligations. The Ombudsman enforces compliance with the Fair Work Act, awards, and registered agreements by investigating breaches, recovering underpayments, and taking enforcement actions. They also educate the public on workplace laws, rights, and best practices.

NSW Fair Trading

NSW Fair Trading is part of the Department of Customer Service. It ensures fair, accessible business practices for employees, consumers, and industries in NSW. They focus on protecting consumer rights, supporting businesses, and ensuring market transparency. Their regulatory priorities guide compliance and enforcement in sectors like rental, property, consumer goods, and automotive.

NSW Industrial Relations Commission

The NSW Industrial Relations Commission (NSW IRC) deals with industrial disputes, sets wages, and establishes terms and conditions of employment through awards and enterprise agreements. They also handles unfair dismissal claims. The Commission aims to regulate industrial affairs in a flexible, non-technical, and efficient manner.

Queensland Industrial Relations Commission

The Queensland Industrial Relations Commission (QIRC) is an independent tribunal that resolves industrial disputes, handles wage recovery, unfair dismissal claims, workers' compensation appeals, and reviews awards and agreements. They also address work health and safety issues, public sector appeals, and anti-discrimination matters. The Commission hears matters in locations throughout Queensland.

South Australian Employment Tribunal

The South Australian Employment Tribunal (SAET) is an independent tribunal that resolves workplace-related disputes, including return-to-work issues, employment disputes, and industrial matters. They also regulate industrial awards, agreements and handles work-related prosecutions. SAET aims for fair, timely outcomes, resolving disputes through agreement, conciliation, mediation, or hearings, while minimizing formality and costs.

Tasmanian Industrial Commission

The Tasmanian Industrial Commission (TIC) resolves industrial disputes, including unfair dismissal claims, and sets wages and employment terms through awards and agreements. The Commission is supported by the Industrial Registry, which assists with application processes but does not provide legal advice.

Wage Inspectorate Victoria

Wage Inspectorate Victoria enforces child employment laws, long service leave entitlements and owner drivers contractors. They provide advice, investigate complaints, and carry out enforcement actions to ensure compliance with employment laws. Their strategic priorities focus on reducing harm, educating stakeholders, building strong relationships, and using modern regulatory practices to promote fair workplaces and business success.

Wageline WA

Wageline provides information to private sector employers and employees in WA on topics such as long service leave, child employment laws, and the applicable employment law system. They offer guidance on WA awards, pay rates, leave, and employment termination. Wageline can provide general advice by phone or email.

Western Australian Industrial Relations Commission

The Western Australian Industrial Relations Commission (WAIRC) is an independent tribunal that resolves industrial disputes through conciliation and arbitration. The Commission assists in settling disputes between parties and, if necessary, makes legally binding rulings. They also mediate employment disputes when both parties agree.
